Eligibility:
Contest is open to all high school students attending public, private, parochial, or homeschools.

How can the current generation of American youth use global interdependence as the guiding principle for fostering democracies abroad and advancing American society towards a more cooperative mode with other nations and international unions?

Guidelines:
  • Essays may not exceed 1000 words in length
  • Entrants may only submit one final essay
  • Entrants are free to explore the issue of interdependence from the economic, social, political, and/or environment angle; however, entrants should not deviate from the issue of supporting democracies around the globe.
  • Entrants are to construct a well-developed position paper that shows clarity of thought, ability to analyze social history, and explain an operative framework for the interdependent world they envision.
  • Entrants should refer to Benjamin R. Barber’s Jihad Vs. McWorld and Sondra Myers' The Democracy Reader for starting points on globalization literature; however, entrants should not feel confined to the opinions represented in those works and may explore other venues of thought.
