Budapest Joins Forces for Interdependence Day 2003

Budapest, Hungary – September 12, 2003 – Across the Atlantic, Budapest marked its own chapter in the story of Interdependence Day. Civic leaders, educators, and students filled university halls to participate in roundtables, film screenings, and cultural events highlighting Europe’s role in shaping an interconnected world.

Hungarian organizers emphasized that interdependence is not only about global cooperation but also about bridging divides within Europe itself. “Hungary stands at the crossroads of East and West,” said Professor Éva Tóth, a political scientist involved in the program. “Our history shows us the dangers of isolation. Today we affirm that our future depends on openness and collaboration.”

The Budapest celebrations were linked via webcast with Philadelphia, enabling real-time dialogue between participants separated by thousands of miles. Students expressed enthusiasm at seeing their voices included in what many called “a new tradition of global citizenship.”
