Interviews: Voices Behind Interdependence Day

Philadelphia / Budapest – September 2003 – As the inaugural Interdependence Day unfolded, participants shared their motivations and hopes.

For Anna Kovács, a Budapest university student, the day was about broadening identity. “I love my country, but I also see myself as part of a larger community. Today reminded me that my choices matter not just here, but everywhere.”

In Philadelphia, community organizer James Lee expressed a similar sentiment: “Our challenges—terrorism, climate, inequality—don’t stop at borders. Interdependence Day shows we must respond as a human family.”

Organizers believe that amplifying these personal voices is critical to sustaining momentum. “It’s the lived experience of citizens that will carry interdependence forward,” said CivWorld’s communications director.
